This year for our Christmas photos I decided to put the boys in cute jammies and add in some snow. I also found some cute sock monkey hats. They really loved the snow and had a blast. I tried to keep the messier snow in the wagon. It worked out pretty good and they didn’t make a huge mess. Happy Holidays!

I always try to take some pictures of my boys in the leaves when they change colors. Unfortunatly our trees did not survive a bug they got this summer and we didn’t have hardly any leaves as we normally do. So on my way to take Ian to pre-k one day I spotted a tree with lots of beautiful yellow leaves close to the ground in a field. I ran home got Brax dressed and we had a photo play date, just the 2 of us. I got alot of great shots and even one of Brax giving me a face squeeze kiss as his daddy calls it. Then on the way home from getting Ian from school we stopped again to get a few of Ian and them together. It was much cooler then so I didn’t get as many. But I love the ones I did get. I miss the leaves in our own backyard, but I’m glad I found some pretty and close to home.

We made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch this last weekend. We’ve been going to the same one since before Ian was born. And we always go with my sister and her kids. This time the kids did better with pictures, but it was crazy busy. Which made it hard to get some of the shots I wanted without a bunch of people in the background. But we still had lots of fun, picked pumpkins, and ate popcorn. We carved our pumpkin last night. I’ll make sure and take pics of it with the boys in their costumes. I can’t wait for Halloween.

A few weeks ago we decided on a whim to go to a beachy area at Grapevine Lake. My hubby wanted to use his new toy, a metal detector, and the boys had a blast playing in the sand. It was alittle sunny when we got there but quickly got very cloudy and windy. We stayed until it looked like it was gonna pour. They were so busy collecting shells and rocks they wouldn’t look at me, but still made for some cute shots. Stayed tuned for more cute pics of the boys and my niece and nephew. Were headed to the pumpkin patch today.

Little Sis in Nature

August 16, 2011

My sister Laura came across an image she wanted to emulate. She had the dress and scouted the location. A very overgrown empty lot in an old neighborhood. We got there right before sunset and worked fast. I love the way they came out and I know she does too. She’s leaving to live in Canada for a few months, so it was a great way to spend some one on one time before she leaves. I’ll miss you little sis, but I know you’ll have a great adventure.

My boys love dirt. And this summer they have gone crazy with it. Since it’s so dry, we have a few dirt patches in our backyard and that’s all they want to do outside is play in the dirt. Brax is obsessed with it and gets super dirty multiple times a day. Ian will usually only go out there in the evening when it’s “alittle” cooler. Since it was almost bath time, I took their shirts off and tried to capture them in the moment being dirty boys. Of coarse they decided to show off instead and be silly. I might try again and be more sneaky with the camera. But I still love these anyways.

We celebrated the 4th of july last night at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. Everyone had a blast. Good food, water guns, cute tiny puppy, basketball and of coarse fireworks. Today we’ll be celebrating at my moms pool and then watching the local fireworks show. Lots of fun this weekend. I already can’t wait till next year.

I was at JoAnns the other day and saw that the color bubbles were 60% off. So we got a few bottles and had my niece and nephew join in the fun this time. My niece loved it. She colored her brother and Ian all green to be the hulk and didn’t want to wash the colors off. She’s really into art so I had a feeling she would love it. My boys had fun as usual painting themselves and each other.

Beat the heat this summer and book an Ice Cream themed mini session in my cool studio. This set will be available the whole month of July and includes everything you see in the photos. And I’m sure I can come up with something cute for any little girls that want to book. We used whip cream instead of ice cream, a whole lot less messy. My boys had a blast and I got some great images. $150 includes a 30-45min. session and 10-12 images on CD. Call or email for more info. 817-915-3689 melissa@melissadphotos.com

This last week we took a small vacation to Galveston TX. When we arrived it was pretty overcast and windy so we decided to take the ferry and explore a bit. I loved watching the birds and even saw some dolphins. The next day we headed to the beach. My boys loved it and didn’t want to leave. They could play in the sand all day long. The next morning we headed home. Taking the long way and enjoying the scenery. We stopped for a quick photoshoot in the sand and to feed the birds one last time. I didn’t get as many good photos as I would have liked cause my camera kept fogging up. Then on the way  home we made one last stop at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston. It was a great short vacation. Hopefully we can take another one before summer is over.
